The historical and cultural site, as well as the scenic area of Ban Bu (Van Hoa neighborhood, Ngoc Lac town, Ngoc Lac district), is located in a place of picturesque and charming natural scenery. It is a destination with distinctive traditional cultural values.

According to historical records, the Ban Bu cave area, located in Ngan village, Ngoc Khe commune (now part of Van Hoa neighborhood, Ngoc Lac town), was once a gathering place for the Lam Son rebels and a site for weapon production. Additionally, the Ban Bu stream served as a defensive line that helped the Lam Son army achieve several victories over the Minh army, notably during the battle in November 1420.

In 2005, the Ban Bu cave was recognized by the Provincial People's Committee as a historical and cultural site, as well as a scenic area, and was included in the overall planning for preservation, restoration, and promotion of the historical and cultural values of the site. The heritage area includes the mountain area, caves, streams, the Nan Pagoda, the Mau Thoai Temple, the temples dedicated to Le Lai, Le Loi, Nguyen Trai, and the generals of the Lam Sơn army. Along with the mountain, cave, and stream complex, one of the highlights of the site is the Nan.

By 2016, the Nan Pagoda was restored with a beautiful and majestic architectural design, located right at the foot of the mountain. In recent years, the pagoda has continued to undergo construction, including the addition of facilities such as the dining hall, kitchen, main gate, abbot’s quarters, and other structures, attracting a large number of Buddhist followers, locals, and visitors from all over to come and admire the scenery and pay their respects.

With its outstanding cultural and historical values, in 2019, the provincial People's Committee officially recognized this heritage site as a provincial-level historical, cultural, and scenic site and included it in the overall planning for preservation, restoration, and promotion of its historical, cultural, and natural heritage. Also in 2019, the provincial People's Committee recognized the site as a provincial tourist destination.
